Our current world is governed by a production and consumption model that leads to environmental degradation. Indeed, the race for competitiveness forces companies to produce in a way that is not always very ethical, while mass consumption depletes our Earth's natural reserves and accelerates climate change.
It was during our numerous researches and readings that we really became aware of the extent of the problems posed by the current model of production and consumption. We are convinced of the need to change our model in order to achieve sustainable development. It is a question of reconciling the economic, environmental and social aspects to fight for a fairer and greener world, so that the next generations can have a bright future.
Here are a few references that have convinced us of the need to implement sustainable development:
Aware of these issues, we were ready to start to develop our application Find Your Fair Shop!
We started from the observation that there is a need to change the way we consume and produce, and we tried to find a solution. That's why we thought of creating the "Find your fair shop" App. Indeed, it is sometimes difficult to change our consumption patterns, especially when we do not know where to find quality products.
This is the problem that our "Find your fair shop" application addresses. Our app takes into account the user's location and shows him all the fair trade shops in the geographical area he chooses. This will make it much easier to buy ethical products. If the user is looking for a particular product, they will also be able to find an eco-friendly shop that sells it.
This way, everyone will have a tool to find alternatives to their consumption.
And on the other hand, fair trade businesses will also gain: they will have better visibility, and will win new customers that will be easy to retain because these customers surely live next door!
Step 1: The wireframe
First of all, we created a wireframe to build the architecture of our application and imagine what we wanted it to look like.
You can see our wireframe here.
Step 2: Our mockup, version 1
We then made the first version of our mockup, where we modelled the colours and the functionality of our application. We integrated search filters (geographical distance...), maps to guide the user to the shops... We chose green as the dominant colour because this colour represents sustainable development and the preservation of the environment. Choosing this colour was therefore very important to us.
After creating our mock-up, we conducted user tests, which we entered into Notion.
These user tests were very important for us because they allowed us to survey the public on the use and the relevance of creating such an application. Indeed, the testers confirmed that the purpose of the application was very useful as more and more people are paying attention to what they consume and are becoming aware of the scale of the environmental problem and climate change.
These user tests also allowed us to improve some things in our application, and to add some features. For example, users told us that they would like to have more precise information about the shops (what they sell, why they are ethical), but they also gave us feedback on the design of the application and on which modifications needs to be done.
You can read more about our user feedback here.
Finally, we made a second version of the appli mockup, taking into account the advice and remarks from the user tests and trying to improve the navigation through the app.
You can consult the second version of our mockup here.
Create an app that uses location.
We want to be able to dentify a customer approaching a point of sale, send him offers, and orient him, guide him to the radius of his preferences
Identify fair shops and fair products in a database.
In order to offer users an important choice, we need to identify precisely the different fair shops and fair products that exist.
